The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) with Korea-Indonesia Offshore Research Cooperation Center (KIORCC)\u2019s support, organized and held the Korea-ASEAN Maritime Week 2022 in Bali from Monday (17\/10) to Friday (21\/10) hosted by Korea Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries and Korea Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The event is an expansion of the ASEAN shipyard market and offshore services industry cooperation in Indonesia and the region.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Organized to support the demand for cooperation in the shipbuilding and offshore plant services industry of Indonesia and major ASEAN countries, KOTRA and KIORCC held this event as part of the ‘Export Plus’ project and in relation with annual KIOC (Korea-Indonesia Offshore Congress). Through various channels such as export conferences, product and technology exhibitions, and buyer networking receptions, it is pioneering the ASEAN shipbuilding and maritime offshore- plant service Industry markets.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Opening remarks from KIORCC Co-Director Mr. Cho Il-Hyung highlighted the event being the first Korea-ASEAN Maritime Week after 3 years due to Co-Vid Pandemic and hoped the event will explore the possibility of mutual cooperation in the shipbuilding and offshore plant services industry, and to lead to concrete results through exchanges between the companies which KIORCC highly supports through both B2B and G2G co-operations. Mr. Cho also suggests taking advantage of opportunities for cooperation between the Korean and Indonesian governments and companies by continuing to actively participate in the main annual event of the Korea-Indonesia Offshore Congress to be held after the Korea-ASEAN maritime week.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Indonesia following the Presidential decrees for the conversion of Diesel fueled power plants to LNG in more than 32 locations in Indonesia has led to further growing demands for the development of LNG infrastructure and logistics. This includes but is not limited to the LNG Liquefaction plants, LNG Terminals, Tanks, Jetties, LNG Carriers Small scale (4k-12kCBM) and associated services and equipment. Fuel conversion from HSD (High Speed Diesel) to LNG is also a potential business area in the future with the implementation of IMO Regulation 2020 which requires vessels to use LSFO (Low Sulphur Fuel Oil). LNG bunkering in the future is also expected to grow from the demand in LNG fueled vessels in the future.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Various local companies are also looking at the demand for FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Units) to meet the growing and future LNG demand for Gas power plants in Indonesia\u2019s many small islands. New options for conversion of LNG Carriers to FSRU seem to be the most economical and feasible method to meet the quick demands in Indonesia with various Korean Companies providing the Engineering and Design as well as construction for newbuilt. There is also a growing supporting Offshore services industry that requires the procurements of goods and services from the Korean companies, valves in particular cryogenic valves and vaporizers and other spare parts and equipment for shipyards are highly sought after in the Indonesian market.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It is also highlighted that there are about 250 shipyards in Indonesia. Newbuilding construction is 1 million DWT per year, and ship repair is about 12 million DWT per year. However, most of the domestically produced ships weigh less than 500 tons, which is relatively low compared to neighboring countries, and the dependence on imports of shipbuilding equipment is high at 65%. Various Local and regional shipyards highlighted the need for alternative spare parts and equipment due to the long waiting times for the order and delivery for certain brands in the market. Vendor registration and opportunities for distribution by local companies was discussed and seen during the event.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In this business export conference, more than 60 leading buyers and associations from major ASEAN shipbuilding and offshore plant services industry such as Vietnam and Singapore, as well as Indonesia, participated in the business export conference to procure high-quality shipbuilding equipment, ESG, next-generation shipbuilding technologies such as carbon-reducing green ships, shipbuilding and port and In order to find a Korean partner to work closely with in the future in areas such as Offshore Plant Service infrastructure development.
