12 February 2025 – PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), in collaboration with the Korea Maritime & Ocean University Consortium (KMOUC), has successfully completed a joint study on increasing the LNG storage capacity at the Arun regasification facility in Aceh.<\/p>\n

The study, conducted between October 2024 and February 2025, marks a significant milestone in the strategic development of the facility as a major LNG hub in Asia.<\/p>\n

The joint study is an outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Pertagas and KMOUC during the 4th Bilateral Maritime Dialogue Indonesia-Korea held in Busan, South Korea, on June 12-13, 2024. The collaboration aims to enhance the operational efficiency and storage capabilities of PT Perta Arun Gas, a subsidiary of Pertagas responsible for managing the Arun regasification and storage facility.<\/p>\n

The study focused on evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of expanding LNG storage capacity, optimizing infrastructure, and strengthening supply chain logistics. The findings will serve as a foundation for future investment and development plans to position Arun as a leading LNG storage and distribution center in the region.<\/p>\n

In an official statement, Pertagas highlighted the completion of the joint study with KMOUC, emphasizing its valuable insights into expanding the LNG storage capacity at Arun. The initiative was noted as being in line with Pertagas\u2019 long-term vision to strengthen Indonesia\u2019s role in the global LNG market.<\/p>\n

Representatives from KMOUC also expressed their commitment to further cooperation in LNG infrastructure development. \u201cOver the past months, both organizations have worked closely to examine the potential of the concept, bringing together a list of deliverables and creating a number of milestones, including periodic review and the site visit. It has been a great journey for all parties involved.\u201d said Mr. Cho IlHyung, Co-Director at KIORCC.<\/p>\n

Following the completion of this study, Pertagas and KMOUC are expected to explore potential investment opportunities and engineering plans for the next phase of development. The initiative highlighted potential partnership between Indonesia and South Korea in advancing LNG infrastructure and energy security in the region.<\/p>\n
