This third monitoring period was conducted at the reefing site in offshore Bontang City and was supported by KIORCC, Mulawarman University, Oceanogen, and local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18456\" src=\"https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DJI_20250803141756_0145_D-800x450.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This monitoring activity concluded the monitoring commitment of the Indonesian government following the conclusion of the Pilot Project for Decommissioning and Rig-to-Reef Re-Utilization of Offshore Plants in Indonesia, a government-to-government project implemented in 2022; collaborated and supported with the Government of the Republic of Korea. This project, implemented between the KHAN Consortium of Korea and PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) of Indonesia, decommissioned and disassembled PHKT\u2019s Attaka-EB platform in offshore Bontang, and transported the platform nearby to a conservation area close to Bontang City to be sunk and re-utilized as an artificial reef.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18454\" src=\"https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P8047498-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P8047498-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P8047498-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P8047498-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P8047498-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P8047498-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/kiorcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P8047498-16x12.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This third monitoring period utilized comparable methodology as the previous monitoring periods. These methods include diver visual analysis by fisheries experts from Mulawarman University, e-DNA sampling and analysis by Oceanogen, as well as water quality checking by MMAF. Initial findings show similar results to previous monitoring activities, which show stable growth of corals, abundance of surrounding wildlife, as well as a clean and stable water quality of the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The conclusion of the Rigs-to-Reefs pilot project marks a significant shift in Indonesia\u2019s offshore plant service industry. As oil and gas companies seek sustainable and cost-friendly solutions for retired offshore platforms, this project shows a viable option to tackle concerns surrounding abandoned platforms.
