7\u20138 May 2026 – Korea\u2013Indonesia Offshore Research & Cooperation Center (KIORCC) participated in The 5th Indo Decomm in Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition<\/em> held in Jakarta on 7\u20138 May 2026, bringing together stakeholders from Indonesia\u2019s offshore, maritime, and energy sectors to discuss the future of decommissioning and offshore sustainability.<\/p>\n

The conference involved representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Kemenko Perekonomian), the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), SKK Migas, Pertamina Group, offshore engineering companies, marine service providers, and companies operating in the decommissioning and offshore services sector. Discussions throughout the event focused on offshore asset management, decommissioning strategies, offshore reutilization, and future energy infrastructure development.<\/p>\n

During the conference, Emmanuel Brilian Tangka from KIORCC presented the ongoing R2LNG project through a presentation titled \u201cRethinking Decommissioning: Turning Offshore Platforms into LNG Infrastructure.\u201d<\/em> The presentation highlighted the growing challenge of aging offshore platforms in Indonesia and the increasing costs associated with conventional decommissioning approaches.<\/p>\n

KIORCC explained that many offshore platforms approaching the end of their production life still possess structural and strategic value. However, conventional removal processes often require significant expenditure while leaving existing infrastructure underutilized. At the same time, Indonesia continues to face challenges related to stranded gas resources and limited energy infrastructure access in remote and island regions.<\/p>\n

Through the R2LNG project, KIORCC introduced an offshore reutilization approach that explores the conversion of selected offshore platforms into LNG-related infrastructure. The concept aims to support gas monetization, improve energy accessibility, and optimize the utilization of existing offshore assets instead of relying solely on full decommissioning.<\/p>\n

The presentation also emphasized the broader value of offshore reutilization in supporting sustainability objectives, including extending infrastructure life, reducing waste from decommissioning activities, and supporting lower-emission energy systems through natural gas utilization.<\/p>\n

In addition to R2LNG, KIORCC introduced several other offshore reutilization opportunities, including offshore carbon storage, renewable energy support infrastructure, offshore aquaculture systems, and ocean monitoring initiatives.<\/p>\n

The conference further reflected growing collaboration between Indonesia and South Korea in offshore and maritime development, particularly in supporting future offshore infrastructure and sustainable energy initiatives.<\/p>\n

Through its participation in The 5th Indo Decomm<\/em>, KIORCC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing innovative offshore reutilization solutions and strengthening Indonesia\u2013Korea collaboration in offshore research, decommissioning, and sustainable energy infrastructure development.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
