23 May 2025 – KIORCC continues the progress of project implementation in the offshore plant service industry sector through the facilitation of a project inception workshop event for Indonesian stakeholders. The projects under discussion include The Development and Demonstration of Low-Carbon Offshore Platform Repurposing Technologies Projects as well as The Indonesian Eco-Friendly Offshore Plant Service Industry Capacity Building Project Official Development Assistance Proposal.
In attendance at the workshop include representatives of various stakeholders of both projects, such as the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Transportation, SKK Migas, and Pertamina Group. From the Korean side, project participants were also in attendance from the Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Pields Engineering, Posco International, KHAN Offshore, and Konsberg Maritime Korea.
The Development and Demonstration of Low-Carbon Offshore Platform Repurposing Technologies Projects, or the rig re-utilization project, aims to conduct platform studies for the application of rig-to-CCS and rig-to-LNG Regasification terminal concepts for a selected offshore platform in Indonesia. This will be the first study conducted for these methods, and will also implement a pilot rig-to-LNG Regasification project on the platform. During the workshop, the study concept was discussed, as well as sharing concerns between stakeholders.
The second project, The Indonesian Eco-Friendly Offshore Plant Service Industry Capacity Building Project Official Development Assistance Proposal, or the ODA Project, focuses on the development of human resources working in the offshore plant industry, mainly for LNG handling through seafaring training at a selected maritime academy in Indonesia, as well as education for offshore policymakers in the Indonesian government.
Following the success of the Rig to Reef Pilot Project in 2022, KIORCC has been active in developing new innovations and programs to contribute to the development of the offshore plant service industry for both Korea and Indonesia. The current plan for both the rig re-utilization project and the ODA project will be implemented over a 5-year period until 2029.
