ADB & Karbon Korea Validation Seminar on Development of CCUS held in Jakarta

26 June 2025 – In continuation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Karbon Korea’s TA-6744 REG: Accelerating the Clean Energy Transition in Southeast Asia program, a validation seminar on Development of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage Solutions was facilitated for relevant government and private stakeholders in Jakarta.

The event aims to further showcase the progress and outcomes of the TA program and to gather stakeholder insights for potential CCUS implementation in Indonesia and the larger Southeast Asia Region. Opened by Mr. Renadi Budiman, Deputy Country Director of ADB; Dr. Won Dong Cho, Chairman of Karbon Korea; and H.E. Eddy Soeparmo, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, the remarks delivered highlighted the importance of both creating a supportive regulatory framework as well as creating technological breakthroughs towards sustainable and just energy transition.  

Following the opening remarks were presentations of the key findings of the TA Project. Topics such as CO2 capture processing, carbon transportation, CCUS cost-benefit analysis, as well as the CCUS implementation roadmap in accordance with article 6 of the Paris Agreement were shared by Mr. Nils Hoy-Petersen, CTO of Karbon Global; Dr. Tae Whan Lee, Chairman of Advact; Mr. Sun Jin Kang of Korea University; and Mr. Tae Yong Jung of Yonsei University.

The second segment of the seminar was a roundtable discussion by representatives of related institutions. This discussion, consisting of experts from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Industry, PLN, Pertamina New Renewable Energy, and ICCS Center focused on the future of the CCS sector in Indonesia through technology and policy development.

The seminar, supported by KIORCC, was attended by representatives of the People’s Consultative Assembly, the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Coordinating Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Industry, SKK Migas, Pertamina Group, ICCS, PLN Group, Indonesia Stock Exchange, ITB, ITS, UI, UGM, Trisakti University, and ITPLN. This seminar follows the program’s inception seminar held on 12 December 2024 in Jakarta and the interim workshop in South Korea on 10-14 March 2025.
