15 November 2023 – The Korea Maritime and Ocean University Consortium (KMOUC) and the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development (BPPSDM) of the Ministry of Marine Affairs, the Republic of Indonesia (MMAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Cooperation in the Field of Marine and Fisheries Applied Research and Capacity Building. The MoU was signed at KMOU by Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, Chairman of BPPSDM; and Prof. Dr. Oh Jin Seok, Chairman of KMOUC.

The aforementioned MoU was developed with respect to the new institutional structure of BPPSDM (ex. The Agency for Marine and Fisheries Research and Human Capacity Development/BRSDM KP), and the transfer of the previously established KMOUC-MMAF cooperation with BRSDMKP to the Directorate General for Marine Spatial and Ocean Management (DJPKRL).
This new MoU with BPPSDM hopes to establish future collaborations in capacity building for government and private workers; increase academic collaborations; facilitate the training of teachers; establish conference and seminar opportunities; and create sister programs for vocational education.
During this visit of the BPPSDM delegation to Busan, other discussion topics were also brought into light concerning the topics of educational facilities, simulators, and future cooperation plans. Among other things, both parties discussed their interests in collaborating in the marine technology sectors, such as smart fish farming facilities and auto feeding systems; the utilization of unused fishing vessels; and Official Development Assistance (ODA) facilities for student exchange programs.
