Jakarta, 14 March 2023 – The Korea Indonesia Offshore Cooperation Center (KIORCC) and KOTRA successfully held its 3rd Korea-Indonesia Offshore Congress (KIOC). This KIOC covered varying topics in relation to the offshore plant service industry; ranging from topics of energy transition policy-making, offshore decommissioning and reutilization, and the development of energy transition infrastructure.
Esteemed guests attended the event, including Deputy Minister Song Myeong-Dal of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea; Mr. Nanang Abdul Manaf, Vice Chairman of SKK Migas; Mr. Mustafid Gunawan, Director of Oil and Gas Program Development of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia; Dr. Oh Jin-Seok, Professor at the Korea Maritime and Ocean University; and other respectable members of involved ministries and business.
Participating Korean companies presented booths to allow Indonesian companies and institutions to take a deeper look at their background and work. These booths provided an opportunity for interested companies to discuss potential collaborations to have in the Indonesian offshore market. Involved Korean companies in these booths were KHAN Offshore, K-BETS, NEWGEN Information and Services, ROVOSTECH, Hyundai Heavy Industries, BMIC, GAS ENTEC, and Trans Gas Solutions.
The KIOC opened the congress with a B2B signing ceremony. This ceremony opened the doors for businesses to form cooperation and potential collaboration for various projects in the industry. There were two sessions of the signing ceremony, which were split into Decommissioning and LNG infrastructure sectors, respectively.
Signing for cooperation in Decommissioning were BMI-PT Bina Rekacipta Utama; KHAN-PT Elnusa; and Hyundai Heavy Industries-PT TIMAS Suplindo. These MoUs aim to work on engineering and EPC solutions in the decommissioning sector.
For LNG Infrastructure, NEWGEN Information and Services-Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Makassar; LNG Korea-PT Jaya Samudra Karunia Gas; GAS ENTEC-PT PAL Indonesia; and Trans Gas Solution and PT Pelayaran KORINDO were able to join hands and collaborate. Their MoUs covered topics such as simulator technology, human resource development, and LNG infrastructure and carriers.
Following the B2B MoU signings was the conference. During this event, distinguished speakers were able to present their topics of expertise. In the first session, the topic titled “Navigating the Offshore Industry in Indonesia: Insights into Energy Transition Policy Making” was delivered by representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, SKK Migas, and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. Here, existing regulations and potential policies surrounding energy and decommissioning were elaborated to participants.
The second session, “Offshore Decommissioning and Reutilization”, topics were presented by KHAN Offshore, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and Karbon Korea. Participants were able to learn more of the decommissioning Pilot Project process successfully concluded towards the end of 2022, the Rig-to-LNG method, and also Rig-to-CCUS.
The last session had speakers covering the subject of development of energy transition infrastructure. The speakers from PLN, KOGAS-Tech, Pertamina International Shipping, and Deloitte Consulting delivered their topics on the strategies, challenges, and opportunities in the national transition to cleaner energy.
The event organizers, KIORCC and KOTRA, hope to hold these Congresses annually as a means to promote not only B2B cooperation and potential in the offshore plant service sector, but also facilitate G2G collaboration between Korean and Indonesian governments alike.
